Valentina Abbona

Valentina Abbona, 6th generation of Cantine dei Marchesi di Barolo together with her brother Davide, lives a passionate and deep relationship with wine, which is for her emotion, feeling, history, terroir and – above all – home. In fact, her experience begins in the family’s cellars – a plunge to the heart every time she returns from long journeys – and it is here that she grows up, experiencing the operativeness of daily work.

After graduating from high school in Alba, she moved to Milan, where she attended the Bocconi University, and graduated with distinction in Business Administration. During these years, her personal and professional training grew steadily thanks to various international exchange programs, which allowed her to deepen her study subject and which took her from Manchester to Hyderabad (India) and New York. Her strongly “international” path continued in Shanghai, where she worked for about a year in a prestigious family-owned consulting firm. During her university studies, she also accompanied her mother Anna on her many business trips abroad: she deepened her knowledge of wine with the help of the most diverse perspectives, and then put that into practice in the perfect crossroads of tradition and innovation represented today by Marchesi di Barolo.

Valentina is today one of the two women at the helm of the Cantine dei Marchesi di Barolo, with her mother Anna carrying on the dream of a great woman: Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier, a descendant of the Sun King’s finance minister and a connoisseur of good wine who moved to the estate of Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti after their wedding and immediately sensed the potential of the grapes being raised in Barolo. From her vision and perception of those lands was born what today is considered the king of wines and, not surprisingly, the wine of kings. With the help of her parents – Anna and Ernesto – and her brother Davide, Valentina is following her own path, always looking ahead and trying to realize the dreams that all this brings: a family committed to producing wines of great quality, to be shared with the many wine enthusiasts, in an increasingly aware market.
